Detectives and fire investigators have determined a blaze which engulfed a Sunshine Coast unit block was likely caused by a charging e-scooter.

Four Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews rushed to the intersection of Nicklin Way and Koorin Dr at Warana about 7am on Monday to find a block of brick and tile units engulfed in flames.

A QFES spokesman said firefighters battled the blaze at several adjoining units before they donned breathing apparatus to scour the dwellings for residents.

The spokesman said no people were found inside with fireys exiting the building at 7.50am and crews performing atmospheric testing and searching neighbouring homes.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a crime scene was declared with detectives and fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze.

“Police investigations into a unit fire on Nicklin Way in Parrearra yesterday have indicated the incident is not believed to be suspicious,” she said.

“Around 7am yesterday police were called to the unit block after reports of a fire in a bedroom area.

“All occupants self-evacuated. Emergency services extinguished the fire which caused damage to the unit.

“The fire is believed to have started as a result of an electrical fault possibly from an e-scooter which was charging in the unit.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no patients were assessed at the scene.
