A pair of thongs in the sand was the first hint for two people that something was not right before the tragic death of a woman at Peregian Beach.
After lunchtime, the pair had noticed a woman walking alone along north Peregian Beach on March 1.
Coolum Beach Senior Sergeant Hardy Wirth said about 20 minutes later the two witnesses noticed the thongs and then spotted a 60-year-old Peregian Springs woman floating in the water.
“They grabbed her out and started CPR,” he said.
He said emergency services were called to the scene and police and paramedics continued attempts to resuscitate the woman.
The woman’s death is being treated as non-suspicious and police are preparing a report for the coroner.
It marks the latest stage of a horror start to the year at beaches across the Sunshine Coast after a spate of similar incidents on the Sunshine Coast since the start of the year, the most recent being a 39-year-old Ipswich man who drowned in the surf at Kings Beach on February 13.
