Peter Lang committed for retrial for rape, indecent treatment charges after hung jury

A former Sunshine Coast radio star who was found guilty of indecently treating a 13-year-old girl in March will face a retrial for other charges.

A former Sunshine Coast radio personality who was convicted of indecently treating a child earlier this year is facing a retrial for charges when a jury could not reach a verdict.

Peter Lang appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 17 facing two charges of going armed to cause fear.

Defence lawyer Ron Behlau said the matter had been awaiting an outcome from District Court matters but four charges have now been scheduled for a retrial.

Lang, who was originally facing 22 charges, was found guilty of five offences during his trial in March.

The five charges include two indecent treatment of a child and three carnal knowledge of a child under 16.

Over the course of the trial the jury heard Lang met up with a 13-year-old girl after she called the Nambour radio station 4SS, where he worked as a presenter, to request a song.

The jury heard Lang and the girl then met at the grounds of a local primary school where they had sex on multiple occasions.

Six of the 22 charges were dropped in his first trial and the jury declared he was not guilty of seven charges.

Four charges were pushed aside after the jury could not deliver a verdict and were dismissed.

These charges are listed as two counts of rape, one of carnal knowledge of a child under 16 and one of indecent treatment of a child under 14.

These charges are now to be subject to the retrial on November 18.

Mr Behlau asked for the two charges of going armed to cause fear to be adjourned to a date after the retrial.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist adjourned the matter until December 13.
