A Palmwoods police officer says he's 'well-aware' of the safety issues plaguing a 'horrible intersection'.

Sergeant Kevin Crowley said he has raised safety concerns regarding the intersection at Jubilee Drive, Chevallum Road and Margaret Street.

"Some time back I raised the issue but I've been told, and I think it's quite common knowledge, that there won't be any significant upgrades until the rail duplication is built," Sergeant Crowley said.

"It's certainly getting worse there purely because of the increase in traffic - particularly as the area grows."

'Someone will be killed': Businesses plea for upgrades

Sergeant Crowley's comments came after a Palmwoods mother launched a petition to upgrade several intersections.

It included Chevallum Road, Jubilee Drive, Margaret Street, and the Churchill and Dunning Street intersections onto Palmwoods-Montville Road.

Jocelyn Anderson, 35, has called on local and state governments to fix the intersections before someone is killed.

Palmwoods businesses have also backed calls for safety upgrades with roundabouts, traffic lights and more parking options some of the suggestions from the public.

"I'm well aware that there's visibility issues particularly coming out of Jubilee Drive and looking left," the Palmwoods station officer-in-charge said.

"And there's compliance issues with the public disobeying the stop signs (in the area).

"It can get really busy there and it's not hard to be waiting several minutes at Jubilee Drive during busy times."

Sergeant Crowley said he's often called to accidents near the rail bridge intersection.

"I've been to a number of crashes were people have been hospitalised," he said.

"Most recently two weeks ago, where a lady was hospitalised for quite some time."

He's urging driver to do the right thing.

"Because of the nature of the roads there, most traffic is not travelling overly fast but it only takes one person to be driving like an idiot to cause mayhem," Sergeant Crowley said.

"I'd say just to obey the road rules, stop at the stop signs look carefully in both directions before proceeding.

"People be careful and be courteous to other drivers."
