A North Coast police officer has been suspended from duty after being charged with violent offences.

The 39-year-old male Senior Constable is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.

Police allege the charges relate to an incident which occurred while the officer was off duty.

“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the service faces serious allegations of misconduct,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated.”
