A 44-year-old man who had an anti-vaccination meltdown in the middle of Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast threatened to punch a woman in the genitalia, a court has heard.
Neighbours called triple-0 about 6pm on October 4 after Nigel William Burlington was seen drunkenly yelling anti-vax remarks at the public in Alexandra Headland.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard Burlington was also hitting cars at the corner of Oloway Crescent and Yakola Parade.
He continued to try and wave vehicles down which forced cars to swerve around him.
Police prosecutor James Allen said the 44-year-old hospitality worker then approached a woman who was standing at the front of her house.
The Warana man yelled at her to wear a mask and to not get vaccinated while he approached, as neighbours came out to assist.
Mr Allen said Burlington yelled from the street he was going to “come and get the female and punch her in the c---”.
Police arrived about 6.15pm and they asked Burlington why he was yelling at people in their houses.
He told police he “didn’t believe people should be getting vaccinated”.
The court heard Burlington obstructed police during his arrest which led to him being pepper sprayed.
Defence solicitor Jacob Pruden said the 44-year-old had no criminal history and was “embarrassed and ashamed” of his actions.
The 44-year-old was said to have been drinking at a work party beforehand.
Burlington pleaded guilty to public nuisance and obstruct police and was sentenced to 40 hours’ community service with no conviction recorded.
