Funeral restrictions were the alleged motive for a 70-year-old man charged with threatening to murder Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in letters.

Alexander Dietmar Willer faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday after he allegedly sent threatening letters to the Premier.

The court heard another woman received a letter which included a threat to kill Ms Palaszczuk on September 16, and Ms Palaszczuk herself received a second letter threatening to kill her on September 22.

Mr Willer, from Maroochydore, did not indicate how he would plea to two counts of written threats to murder and an unrelated charge of unlawfully stalking a woman between January 1, 2019 and November 2 this year.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said the former charges would need to be dealt with in the District Court.

The matters were adjourned to January 29 with a brief of evidence to be provided to Hawkes Lawyers in the meantime.

Mr Willer's bail was enlarged with "lengthy" conditions and he declined to make a comment outside court.

Defence lawyer Belinda Robinson told the Daily that the threats charges related to funeral restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"At this premature stage, we cannot make any indication about the course that the charges will take until we have received the evidence and our client has been fully advised," she said.
