Man to face Maroochydore Magistrate Court charged with attempted robbery, assault

A 30-year-old man who allegedly pulled a 67-year-old woman from her car before assaulting her and driving off will stay behind bars on remand for his alleged Maroochydore crime spree.

A man, charged with a series of alleged attempted robberies, carjackings and assault of a 67-year-old woman at Maroochydore will stay behind bars on remand until his next court date.

Police will allege James Edward Lawrence approached a woman in a car park on Dalton Drive at 6.30am on Wednesday, December 1.

The 30-year-old man allegedly attempted to rob her before she raised the alarm and he fled.

Mr Lawrence then allegedly attempted to steal a car stopped on Dalton Drive at the intersection of Maroochy Boulevard.

After failing, the Mr Lawrence approached another car on Maroochy Boulevard at the intersection of Sunrise Drive and allegedly pulled a 67-year-old woman from the driver’s seat, assaulted her and drove off.

She was transported to hospital suffering minor injuries.

Police arrested the man a short time later at a service station at the intersection of Kawana Way and Station Road at Birtinya.

Mr Lawrence was charged with eight offences including attempted robbery while using or threatening violence, attempted unlawful entry of a vehicle, unlawful entry of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and while unlicensed.

He was also charged with failing to provide a specimen of blood.

Mr Lawrence faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court from custody on Thursday morning.

His solicitor Luke Bull did not make a bail application.

Magistrate Rod Madsen adjourned the matter to February 25 for mention.

Mr Lawrence was remanded in custody.
