Man in Maroochydore court over robberies, crashing into Palmwoods home

A 22-year-old man allegedly bashed another man, crashed a car into a Sunshine Coast hinterland home and has also been charged with a separate armed robbery. See the photos.

A 22-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly beat up a man before crashing a car into a Sunshine Coast home.

Police allege a 30-year-old man was walking to a home on Chevallum Rd at Palmwoods, after he got off the train just after midnight on August 15, when he was set upon by a 22-year-old man.

Nambour man Chace Kevin Fitzpatrick, 22, allegedly beat up the 30-year-old, causing serious facial injuries, and then he took the man’s backpack and mobile phone.

Police further allege the 22-year-old then crashed a car into a house in McKays Lane in Palmwoods.

Police were on their way to that crash when they were flagged down by the 30-year-old man, who was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Nambour detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Police have also charged the Mr Fitzpatrick over an alleged armed robbery in Yandina on July 23.

Police allege a 20-year-old man was sitting in his Holden Commodore ute at the Yandina IGA when two men approached the vehicle.

The alleged victim got out of the vehicle and Mr Fitzpatrick got into the driver’s seat.

Police continue to hunt for the other man.

Mr Fitzpatrick remains in custody and had his charges mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 16.

He was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence, robbery with violence armed, unlawful entry of vehicle and unlawful use of vehicle.

No bail application was made and the matters were adjourned until October 27.

Residents near the home the car crashed into also raised concerns about the road.

Jo Bennetts has lived near the home the car crashed into for about a year and said many drivers used McKays Lane because the adjacent street was marked as a private road.

“When they come down there’s a bit of a hill, a bit of a blind spot and usually there’s cars parked on the road too so you can’t always see what’s coming from the right hand side going into Honeybee Pl,” she said.

“If someone came at speed, it would be concerning if they slid and the boys (rooms) are on that section or that side.”

She also had concerns about her neighbour’s home.

The resident would like to see a stop sign installed at the end of the street, speed bumps and said that she would also like a footpath on the street for the schoolchildren who were getting off school buses.
