Man faces charge of supplying drugs to teen

A man who allegedly supplied marijuana to a minor will be sentenced in the District Court, while a relative of his has pleaded guilty to drug charges.

A man who allegedly supplied marijuana to a minor will be sentenced in the District Court, while a relative of his has pleaded guilty to drug charges.

Barry Robert Mcgilvery fronted Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of possessing dangerous drugs and aggravated supply of dangerous drugs to a minor 16 years or more.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin read out the charges in court, saying Mcgilvery was charged with supplying marijuana to a minor over the age of 16 between February 1 and April 29.

Mcgilvery’s lawyer, Elizabeth Davey, told the court the charges would need to be committed to District Court and asked for a brief of evidence to be provided.

The charges were adjourned for a committal mention on September 4.

His relative, Natasha Jacinta Mcgilvery, 20 also appeared in court and pleaded guilty to drug charges.

The court heard Natasha was found with marijuana and a water pipe on April 29 in Beerwah.

Ms Davey told the court Mcgilvery was eligible for drug diversion and had an appointment on Thursday.

“I do have some character reference material,” Ms Davey said.

“Well I don’t need them because there’s no conviction recorded,” magistrate Baldwin said.

Ms Baldwin placed Natasha on a four-month good behaviour bond of $400.

“That’s with two conditions- one that you don’t commit any further offences and secondly that you attend drug diversion at 12.30pm on the 23rd,” she said.

“For Pete’s sake, don’t be late because if you turn up at 12.40pm, they’ll say she didn’t attend and it will cost you $400 and a conviction recorded.”
