A man initially accused of assault occasioning bodily harm after a woman died in a Sunshine Coast hospital has had his charge upgraded.

Queensland Police revealed in a statement on December 31 a 58-year-old man’s charge of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence) has been upgraded to one charge of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offence).

This comes after Kristy Louise Hunter was found with non-life-threatening injuries in a Currimundi home but died in hospital a day later.

A police spokesman previously said officers were called to the home on Gannawarra St, Currimundi, about 4.40pm on Sunday, December 22, to reports of a disturbance and the 47-year-old was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment.

This comes after Sherele Moody, journalist and founder of the Red Heart Campaign shared a heartfelt tribute to Ms Hunter after speaking to her father.
