A Sunshine Coast bodybuilder and father-of-six who purchased steroids and other associated drugs over the internet has been punished in court.

Luke Peter Hunt, 41, was fined $500 in Maroochydore Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to two counts of attempting to possess danger drugs, seven counts of possessing dangerous drugs, buying medicines, possessing property having been acquired for a drug offence and possessing anything used in the connection of a crime.

Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said Hunt’s house was searched at 12pm on May 16, 2022, where detectives found steroids and multiple drugs used in conjunction with the testosterone.

The drugs were in glass vials and in tablet form, the court heard.

A large amount of new syringes and alcohol slips were also found.

Sergeant Ruddiman said there was no allegation that Hunt used the drugs for anything but personal use and made full admissions to possessing them.

He told police “I’m using these items for body building” and that he bought the steroids online using his phone to make and track the order.

“He’s given police absolutely everything,” Sergeant Ruddiman said.

“He’s a way fitter specimen than me … but this stuff can do horrendous things to you.”

Duty lawyer Liesel Rogan said her client’s wife was supporting him in court and they cared for six children together.

“One of the children has down syndrome and was previously diagnosed with leukaemia,” Ms Rogan said.

Ms Rogan said Hunt did abuse alcohol when he was younger which impacted his ability to train, so he decided to use steroids.

She said he wasn’t using them anymore.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Hunt was lucky he wasn’t charged under the customs act for ordering the steroids online.

“The steroids were obtained on the black market over the internet,” Mr McLaughlin said.

“There were also charges of attempting to have those drugs because you had them in the mail and they were intercepted by police.

“It might look good on the outside for a while but there’s pretty bad evidence about the long term effects of it, particularly once you stop using it.”

Mr McLaughlin did not record a conviction against Hunt.
