A dad who wanted to make a new life for himself in the Noosa region following a relationship breakdown has blown more than three times the legal drink-driving limit.
Luke Hamilton Waters, 45, of Doonan pleaded guilty to high-range drink-driving in the Noosa Magistrates Court on August 23, 2022.
Police prosecutor Phillip Stephens said police were patrolling on Leslie Dr in Noosa Heads about 12.15am on August 6, 2022, when their attention was drawn to a Ford XH Falcon ute with interstate number plates that was braking excessively and swerving in its lane.
Sergeant Stephens said when police pulled the ute over, the defendant was the sole occupant and he measured a breath-alcohol concentration of 0.182 per cent.
The police prosecutor said Waters’ licence was suspended from the date of the offence.
The defendant, who represented himself, said he was deeply remorseful and understood the gravity of his actions.
He said he had sworn he would never drink-drive again following his last offence, which was a “long time ago”.
Waters, a dad to a 25-year-old daughter and a teenage son, said he had decided to move north to Noosa from Victoria to make a “fresh start” following a separation.
He asked the magistrate consider the minimum term for the loss of his licence.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist disqualified Waters from driving for a further nine months, fined him $1050 and a conviction was recorded.
