A young father allegedly caught with 79g of pure meth says he never envisaged spending his 30th birthday behind bars and has finally admitted he has a problem.
But Joshua David Grace's promises to leave his drug-addicted life behind were not enough to convince a court to free him on bail when his charges were mentioned on Friday.
The 30-year-old Burnside man faced 15 charges including drug trafficking, supply and possession when he appeared on a videolink from prison in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
His defence lawyer Jodi Allen said Mr Grace had been in custody for nine months and turned 30 in jail last month, which was not how he wanted to mark the milestone.
"Only in the past nine months has he acknowledged to himself and his family and friends he has a significant drug problem," Ms Allen said.
She said that realisation had helped him reconnect with his family.

The court heard Mr Grace had a four-year-old daughter but only had intermittent contact with her.
"Because of that he feels he has been a failure of a father," Ms Allen said.
She said Mr Grace wanted to emulate his own father, who had raised him well.
She said the former civil construction worker had an offer of employment from a family friend and had been accepted into a 28-day residential rehabilitation program.
The court heard Mr Grace's charges related to methamphetamine and cocaine for which analysis certificates had been received.
Police were still waiting for a drug analysis certificate for a quantity of what was alleged to be party drug GHB.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Amanda Brewer said police opposed Mr Grace being allowed bail and that he and a co-accused had allegedly been caught with $20,000 in cash between them as well as 79g of pure meth.
Mr Grace's head dropped when magistrate Kurt Fowler refused his application for bail.
Mr Fowler also refused an application by the Sunshine Coast Daily to view documents before the court that outlined in full the police's argument for Mr Grace to be kept in custody.
Mr Grace's matters will next be mentioned on July 2.
