A Coast soccer coach who allegedly was drunk while driving “recklessly” in Yandina is fighting the charges against him.

Josh David Sansucie, 24, pleaded not guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, July 26, to driving under the influence of liquor, driving without reasonable consideration of other persons using road, two counts of failing to provide saliva or blood for testing and failing to provide name and address to police.

Police will allege the Doonan man was driving poorly on Cooloolabin Road in Yandina on July 12.

Mr Sansucie, who coaches children’s soccer and plays competitively, told the court police had arrived at one of his coaching sessions after they’d received calls about “reckless driving”.

“I was coaching at the time when the police arrived and they didn’t know whose vehicle it was,” Mr Sansucie said.

“I came up to them and said ‘look guys, I’m mid-session but that’s my vehicle, can we speak afterwards’.”

Mr Sansucie told the court he had the moment on video from the training session where he was arrested and wanted to present it as evidence.

Mr Sansucie said he was the driver of the car that day but denied all allegations.

Police prosecutor Rebecca Lambert said Mr Sansucie had allegedly failed to provide a blood sample for testing after the “breath analysis result didn’t fit within the scale” of inquiry.

Mr Sansucie said the test had come “up zero” and hoped he could get his licence back after it was suspended.

“I’m pretty much stranded without my licence,” he said.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said Mr Sansucie would have to apply for a work licence on another day.

She adjourned Mr Sansucie’s matter to September 27 for hearing.
