A 49-year-old Buddina man said he only broke into a Mooloolaba resort to go for a swim because he saw its “big blue light” and he was hot from his early morning workout.
Jasper Hollywood appeared in Caloundra Magistrates Court on Tuesday with 12 pages of criminal history after he was charged with five offences between 2021-2022.
The court heard the heavily tattooed gentlemen had trespassed in a half-knocked down house due to be redeveloped in Buddina between October 2-5 2021 and bizarrely broke into a Mooloolaba resort on November 3, 2021.
Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said Hollywood in the second offence climbed up to the first level of the resort to the pool area, walked into the bathroom, used the lift and then left.
“When asked about it he said he was ‘going for a swim’ but it had the pool cover on,” Sergeant Lydford said.
Fingerprints at the Buddina and Mooloolaba scenes led police straight back to Hollywood who they then charged.
Sergeant Lydford said Hollywood then stole registration plates in Birtinya about 1.30am on January 26, 2022 which was captured by CCTV footage.
Police patrols in Moffat Beach found the licence plates on Hollywood’s car which were flagged as stolen and Hollywood was spoken to by police.
The court heard CCTV footage depicted a man fitting his description with face tattoos stealing the plates but Hollywood told the cops it wasn’t him.
Sergeant Lydford said the Buddina man had been wearing the same clothes in the video as when he spoke to police.
The 49-year-old Buddina man represented himself in court and said during Covid he would exercise at night and had been skating to Mooloolaba on November 3, 2021.
“I was really hot and I was sweating and I saw this big blue light shining and it was a pool and I thought I’d go for a swim, climbed over the fence … that’s all I did,” he said.
Acting Magistrate Raelene Ellis told the Buddina man that he needed to stop acting like a 15-year-old.
“You can’t just swim in somebody’s pool if you want to,” she said.
“Someone else’s pool is not for your taking.”
Hollywood pleaded guilty to two counts of trespass, breaching bail, stealing, and driving an uninsured and registered car.
He was sentenced to nine months’ probation, with convictions recorded.
