Jaidyn Matthew Thompson: Tewantin man pleads guilty to public nuisance outside Noosa Reef Hotel

‘How’s ya night ya dogs’: Police were forced to ditch an intercept after a 21-year-old Tewantin man was seen hanging out a car window giving them the finger.

Police say violence won't be tolerated this Christmas

A Sunshine Coast magistrate has questioned a young Tewantin man for his “argy bargy” comments when he hung out of the window of a car and yelled at police.

Jaidyn Matthew Thompson was sitting on a park bench in Noosa about 2am on October 5 when he made lengthy eye contact with the officers.

Police prosecutor Pedau Grabbe said officers had stopped a car later that morning along Noosa Drive outside the Reef Hotel when they saw Thompson again.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard the 21-year-old’s legs and feet were extended outside the vehicle’s window with his bright red shoes seen by police.

Constable Grabbe said as Thompson’s taxi was leaving he flipped the middle finger at the officers and said “how’s ya night ya dogs (sic)”.

Police followed the taxi and then spoke to Thompson where he became “obtuse and obnoxious” towards them.

The court heard he “argued every point with them” and continued to ask for a fine before he was charged with public nuisance.

He later told police he thought they were friends of his outside of the Reef Hotel.

Acting Magistrate Raelene Ellis questioned the public nuisance charge over the man’s “argy bargy” comments and asked why people weren’t allowed to argue with police.

Representing himself, Thompson told the court he had to work later that morning and wanted to head home.

Thompson pleaded guilty to public nuisance and travelling in a vehicle with part of his body outside a window and was fined $500.

No conviction was recorded.
