A Sippy Downs man called the cops on himself after he broke a motorist’s nose who drove into the back of his car.

Heaton Thomas Lishman-Mcgeoch flew into the rage which led to the violent assault of another motorist following a car accident on August 28 at Mountain Creek.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday Lishman-Mcgeoch was driving about 20km/h when a vehicle behind him collided with the back of his car.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said the collision caused minor damage.

Lishman-Mcgeoch exited his car and approached the victim who was sitting in the driver’s seat of his own car.

Sergeant Burrell said the victim yelled at the Sippy Downs man that he had “brake checked” him.

The court heard Lishman-Mcgeoch punched the victim in the face which caused the other driver’s nose to bleed.

The Sippy Downs man called police to report the crash and attack. He was later charged with assault which he pleaded guilty to on Wednesday.

Sergeant Burrell said the victim had little opportunity to defend himself as he was sitting in the driver’s seat and suffered a broken nose.

He pleaded guilty to one charge.

Defence lawyer Rose Killip said Lishman-Mcgeoch, who had no criminal history, was immediately remorseful for the attack which was noted by police who interviewed him.

Ms Killip said the victim was also given a fine by police for driving too closely to Lishman-Mcgeoch which started the incident.

The solicitor said the assault was out of character for the Sippy Downs man who wrote an apology letter to the court.

Magistrate Rod Madsen agreed and accepted it was out of character for the 23-year-old who “did everything right” by calling police, co-operating and accepting responsibility.

Mr Madsen however did say it was an “incredibly stupid” thing to do, with the courts often seeing cases where defendants “react badly” in traffic situations.

Lishman-Mcgeoch was placed on a 12 month probation order with no conviction recorded.
