Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told police were called to the crumpled wreck, to find the 22-year-old Mt Coolum man and a woman had fled.

Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said the pair ran into bushland, with officers enlisting the help of plain clothes detectives.

Sergeant Ruddiman said Bancroft and his companion decided to come back to the road near Serenity Cl after they saw an unmarked car.

To their surprise it was detectives who exited the vehicle, with Bancroft doing a runner back into the bush.

The court was told police continued to yell for Bancroft to stop but he ignored them, leading police to deploy the dog squad while they cordoned off the area.

He was eventually arrested by police and charged.

Bancroft told police he was a passenger in the car and left the scene of the crash because the driver had been drinking and she didn’t want to get into trouble.

Defence solicitor Luke Bull said the concreter caused no injury to police and made full admissions after his arrest.
