THE number of drink and drug-drivers recorded on the Sunshine Coast in recent weeks has slowed in lockdown with 11 charged.
Five people have fronted Sunshine Coast courtrooms on drink-driving charges since March 14.
Six people have also fronted courts on drug-driving charges.
Sunshine Coast District Acting Superintendent Jason Overland said the number of people before the courts would appear to be down to people driving less.
But Supt Overland said high speeds detected in static traffic cameras across the state were “disappointing to see”.
As a result, police will be running high visibility operations including traffic police to bolster a presence to ensure Chief Health Officer directions are undertaken.
“This weekend will see the reintroduction of traffic camera operations as well as high visibility police focusing on road safety,” Supt Overland said.
“Our cameras are everywhere.
“From tomorrow, people can go for a drive, ride a jetski, visit a national park as we gradually get back to normality.”
