An old home has gone up in flames in a busy Sunshine Coast suburb and the subsequent road closure is causing a traffic headache for parents on school pick-up.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said a small reignition of the fire occurred about 5.30pm in the back corner of the house, with fire crews called to put it out again.
Fire crews were called earlier to a single-storey building on Perwillowen Rd in Burnside about 11.50am today, May 30.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the “structure” was fully engulfed in flames and the fire was contained but not fully extinguished as at about 12.05pm.
She said it was reported as an abandoned structure but fire crews were still searching it.
Commenters took to social media, saying the old house next to Burnside Motors was up in flames.
Paramedics and police were also called to the fire.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three people were looked over following the blaze but no one was taken to hospital.
Police have closed Perwillowen Rd between Arundell Av and Windsor Rd.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
One parent on school pick-up, however, at nearby Burnside State School, said the traffic was backing up and causing delays.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said, about 1pm, emergency crews still did not have access to the building.
As of 5.45pm, paramedics have returned to the scene after reports the fire had reignited, a Queensland Ambulance X post read.
