A Currimundi pensioner has assaulted and pulled the hair of a 58-year-old woman during an argument at a newsagency and fish and chip shop.

Elaine Joan McGregor, 80, was not further punished after she attacked a woman in Wurtulla on September 29, 2021.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the 80-year-old was at a newsagency about 11am when she had been behind her victim who she claimed was blocking the exit.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said there was a heated exchange where McGregor forcibly passed the victim before she raised her forearm aggressively and pulled the woman’s hair.

Sergeant Lydford said after the assault the 80-year-old wandered over to the fish and chip shop while the victim tried to take a photograph of her to show police.

The court heard McGregor, fuelled by rage, lashed out and grabbed the victim’s arm and placed her arm into an arm bar and held it behind the woman’s back.

Both women were told to leave the store after the scuffle.

Defence lawyer Chelsea Emery said the former Telecom worker and naval woman had no criminal history and was a handy cricketer in her earlier years.

Ms Emery told the court McGregor said she had felt isolated and had felt threatened during the two protracted incidents.

McGregor pleaded guilty to common assault, with no conviction recorded.
