David John Langford released on parole after he pleaded guilty to armed assault occasioning bodily harm

The friends were in a fight when a Coast man turned on his mate and slashed his neck, a court heard.

A Coast man who sliced his best friend’s neck with a knife during a fight has been released on immediate parole.

David John Langford, 31, pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday to assault occasioning bodily harm while armed.

The court heard police had been called to a Mountain Creek home after Langford had assaulted his “best mate” with a knife on January 26, 2021.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said Langford been drunk when he got into a fight with his friend before storming outside where he started to damage the friend’s car.

Langford then pulled a knife on his friend and sliced his neck, causing a deep cut to the man, the court heard.

Sergeant Lydford said when he recently spoke with the victim, the man assured him the pair were still “best friends” despite the incident.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said during sentencing he would take into account Langford had been in jail for 154 days since his arrest.

Langford was sentenced to 18 months on parole, starting from June 25.
