Dallas Michael Denniss Hicks spat on woman in Bli Bli

A woman has felt ‘disgusted and degraded’ after an aspiring Sunshine Coast MMA fighter spat in her face because he accused her of getting him evicted.

An aspiring mixed martial artist with plans to compete overseas has spat in a woman’s face after he accused her of getting him evicted from his house.

Dallas Michael Denniss Hicks had been involved in an argument with the complainant about his eviction from his Bli Bli home on August 3 when things turned violent.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told the woman had come to Hicks’ address to return a dog which belonged to another roommate when he accused her of getting him evicted.

As she was preparing food for the dog during her visit the Buderim man then spat directly in her face, with some landing in her eye.

The 24-year-old then threatened to kill her dog as she retreated, with Hicks spitting several more times in her direction as she left.

The aspiring fighter later told police he “just snapped” after he said she tried to antagonise him.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brendan Newman said in his conversations with the complainant, she said she felt “disgusted and degraded” about the behaviour directed towards her.

The court heard Hicks was originally charged with assault but pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge of common assault in court on Friday, November 11.

Defence lawyer Christopher Lumme said Hicks reacted because he believed the woman told him to “kill himself” and threw dog food on his property.

Mr Lumme told the court Hicks was an up and coming mixed martial arts fighter and had plans to compete in America and Europe and asked for a conviction not to be recorded.

Magistrate Graham Hillan denied this and said it was a “disgusting and despicable offence” and sentenced Hicks to three months’ jail, suspended for 12 months.

A conviction was recorded.
