Concreter Brent Logan pleads guilty to unlawful use of motor vehicles

A concreter has landed back in custody after he was involved in a series of vehicle thefts across the Sunshine Coast, including a brazen key and car heist from a gym with a female juvenile.

A Buddina concreter has been jailed for his role in a number of vehicle thefts on the Sunshine Coast, with one committed with a young girl.

Brent William Logan appeared via video link from custody on Tuesday when Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard of his petty crime spree which lasted for several months.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to 11 charges including three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two of stealing and one of wilful damage of police property.

The court heard some of Logan’s crime spree involved other offenders, including a juvenile female.

Logan on two occasions stole a pair of keys, including one incident in the police facts where Logan took a set of keys for a Ford Ranger from the Fitness Cartel gym at Maroochydore on January 15 and drove it to the Mooloolaba Bowls Club.

Police prosecutor James Allen said some of the crimes involved a level of “planning and preparation”.

Logan also damaged a police vehicle in Aroona, unlawfully used a Hyundai Elantra and possessed a knife.

Mr Allen said Logan was also on a suspended sentence from the Maroochydore District Court in 2022 for choking and other domestic violence offences.

Defence lawyer Matt Cooper said Logan had an athletic youth however his life took a shift when he began mixing with the wrong crowd.

Mr Cooper said this changed the trajectory of his life.

The defence lawyer said Logan was the victim of a brutal assault in December last year where he suffered multiple facial fractures and needed surgery.

He was meant to have packing removed from his nose in January but was arrested. The court heard he was unable to get the procedure done in custody, which led to facial swelling.

Mr Cooper said Logan was using meth at the time however had reached out to his probation officer for his substance use and engaged in rehab before his arrest.

His lawyer said he had been in custody for just under four months.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist sentenced Logan to 15 months’ jail but gave him immediate parole. He was then granted bail for breaching his suspended sentence.
