A man has been granted bail after he allegedly broke into popular Sunshine Coast restaurant Spirit House and caused $100,000 in damage.

Colin Mark Berry, 43, was arrested on Monday morning after police were called to reports of a break in at the venue at 6am.

Mr Berry was located nearby and charged with two counts each of wilful damage and enter premises with intent.

On Monday, Spirit House likened the damage to a “wrecking ball” and told disappointed diners that the restaurant would be closed until mid October.

Spirit House posted to Facebook that there had been about $100,000 worth of damage and that the kitchen was “totally destroyed.”

Police will allege Mr Berry damaged computers and other electronics, red wine and the kitchen ceiling before coating the kitchen in fire extinguisher dust.

The popular restaurant would continue to operate its cooking school but the restaurant would be closed for several weeks.

“In the meantime, we are contacting everyone with a booking and will let you know when repairs have been carried out and we can trade again,” restaurant management said.

Mr Berry appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was granted bail to a Monkland address on several conditions.

He was due to appear in court again on September 3.
