A 43-year-old man accused of destroying a Sunshine Coast’s Spirit House restaurant allegedly caused a total loss between $1.2 million and $1.4 million to the business, a court has heard.

Colin Mark Berry, 43, allegedly broke into the popular Coast restaurant on August 30.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Nick Nitschke told Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday Mr Berry caused approximately $160,000 in damage to the business.

Sergeant Nitschke said the business was expected to suffer a total loss of up to $1.4 million.

Mr Berry is charged with two counts of entering a premise with intent and wilful damage as well as possessing a knife in a public place.

In an interview on September 3 Spirit House co-owner Acland Brierty said the cooking school’s fridges had been ripped out, anything made of glass or electrical had been damaged and a fire extinguisher had been sprayed across the room.

In court Sergeant Nitschke asked for the matters to be put into the committal stream given the amount of damage.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin adjourned the matters to December 17 for a committal mention.
