A Sunshine Coast man has died after being struck by a vehicle on the Bruce Hwy in a devastating start to the summer holidays.

A 72-year-old Little Mountain man has died after being struck by a car on the Bruce Hwy in a horror crash on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said initial investigations suggested the man was crossing the Bruce Hwy at Chevallum about 3.30pm when he was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes.
He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle which struck him, a 93-year-old man, was uninjured and is assisting police with their inquiries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision is urged to contact police.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the driver was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
It is understood the man ran across the road to retrieve an item that had come loose from the roof of his car.
The man was initially treated for critical injuries however he died at the scene.
The Bruce Hwy near the Chevallum exit is closed and diversions were in place towards Service Rd.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and follow traffic directions.
