A Cooran man has missed the birth of his child after he was arrested for allegedly attacking a man for his vehicle in what was described as an “opportunistic robbery”.

Caileb Wayne Kramer has spent 149 days in custody on remand after what police allege to be a violent carjacking at Nambour on June 29.

Allegations told to Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday involved the 25-year-old punching his victim in the face and stealing his vehicle, among other claims of evading police and dangerous driving.

Police prosecutor Rachel Duckworth opposed Kramer’s release and cited closed circuit television, photo boards and witness statements allegedly implicating Kramer at the scene of the crime.

Ms Duckworth said search warrants were also executed at his home.

Defence solicitor Matt Cooper however pushed for the 25-year-old’s conditional release on strict bail conditions.

Mr Cooper said his client expressed a strong desire to return to the community to support his partner who gave birth to their child on Wednesday night.

The court was told Kramer was arrested and taken into custody on July 3 after he also breached his parole.

Kramer’s solicitor argued there was context to the alleged offending and believed the prosecution may struggle to prove some of the allegations behind the “opportunistic robbery”.

Mr Cooper claimed the Cooran man allegedly argued with the man due to a traffic collision and the violence occurred in this context.

He said Kramer did not allegedly inflict the assault to scare the victim to steal the car, but rather decided to steal following a short gap after the violence.

Even if Kramer was granted bail on Thursday, the solicitor said due to Kramer’s parole being breached he would still have to convince the parole board to release him.

Since being incarcerated, the allegedly stolen vehicle had been located and returned to the owner.

Acting magistrate Raelene Ellis was however not swayed and cited several entries on Kramer’s criminal history which ranged from assaults to dangerous driving.

She said the allegations involved “serious violence” in the robbery along with other multiple charges.

His bail was refused. The 25-year-old’s matters will return to court on December 15 where he will face 15 charges.

This included five counts of receiving tainted property, two of possessing dangerous drugs, two of driving disqualified and one of evasion, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and robbery with personal violence. No pleas were entered.
