Two mates have been heavily fined after being involved in violent incidents in a Sunshine Coast safe night precinct.
Rahn Stephen Brooks and Brodie David John Turner admitted to their involvement in the fights along Ocean St at Maroochydore in the early hours of October 13, following their guilty pleas to public nuisance on Friday.
Police prosecutor Brendan Newman told the court police were called to the Post Office nightclub about 2am to reports of a fight between a group of men.
Security removed several people who were involved including Turner, a 21-year-old man from Baringa.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Friday that Turner came to attention of police due to him calling out to another man involved in the fight before he yelled at several others.
“Come on bro ... let’s go, nah f--- it let’s go,” Sergeant Newman quoted Turner saying.
The 21-year-old was told to relax however he continued to be belligerent and removed his shirt before being arrested.
Sergeant Newman said Brooks, a 21-year-old apprentice from Palm Beach, was seen leaving the venue’s beer garden when he punched a man standing in front of him.
Police intervened and he was arrested.
Both friends, who have links to the South Burnett, represented themselves in court with Brooks telling magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist he was an apprentice electrician who moved to the Gold Coast from Blackbutt.
Mr Stjernqvist asked the 22-year-old what he was doing punching people “after the sun goes down” in Ocean St.
Brooks told the magistrate he saw his friend being assaulted by multiple people.
“Things happen in Ocean St when the sun goes down,” Mr Stjernqvist said.
“You could walk into Ocean St when the sun goes down without a conviction, you walk out the other end with one.”
Mr Stjernqvist asked Turner if he had anything to say about the “debacle”.
“Nah not really,” he said.
The magistrate opted not to record convictions against both men and fined them $660 each.
