Breanna Jade Laffey charged with dangerous driving after police chase

Police have released dramatic footage of a woman, who has been named in court, allegedly speeding away from Sunshine Coast police officers during a major roadside operation.

A 24-year-old woman who allegedly sped away from police at up to 180km/h has been arrested as part of a road safety operation on the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad conducted Operation Lasso at the Glass House Mountains on the Bruce Highway on drivers travelling northbound on July 24 from 8pm.

Police said that among drivers pulled over within a four-hour period, a 24-year-old Mango Hill woman was charged after she allegedly drove dangerously through the RBT site about 11pm.

Body-worn camera footage show a blue Toyota Corolla speeding away from officers after she was asked to step out of the vehicle, barrelling over a traffic cone in the process.

A police officer can be heard calling for “urgent” Polair back-up as the car takes off.

Police allege the woman drove on the wrong side of the road reaching speeds up to 180kmh before she was taken into custody at Caboolture.

A tyre deflation device was used to stop the Corolla.

The woman appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 25 and court records show she was identified as Breanna Jade Laffey.

She was charged with offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, possessing dangerous drugs, obstructing police and contravening a police direction.

During the operation, police also stopped a 21-year-old North Lakes man allegedly found with meth and MDMA.

He has been charged with two counts of possessing drugs and one of one of possessing a thing, namely a mobile phone, used in the commission of a crime and is due to appear in Caloundra Magistrates Court on August 8.

More than 650 roadside breath tests were conducted by police and three drivers were caught over the legal alcohol limit.

Police also issued 16 infringement notices for driving on a nature strip, failing to display P-plates, defective vehicles, unregistered and unlicensed driving.
