Benedict De St Amatus, Alexander De St Amatus in court for alleged tax fraud

A businessman from Forest Glen, accused of committing tax fraud alongside his son, is now facing an additional 10 serious allegations, a court indictment has revealed.

A Forest Glen businessman, accused of committing tax fraud alongside his son, is facing several new serious charges, a court indictment has revealed.

His son and co-accused, Alexander De St Amatus, 37, also had his indictment presented.

Neither of them appeared in person, but both are on bail.

The two men were accused of making false claims to the Australian Taxation Office for financial gain through a company that has since been deregistered.

The new indictments mean Dr De St Amatus now faces two charges of obtaining a financial advantage by deception, one of attempting to gain financial advantage by deception and ten charges of using a forged document to induce a Commonwealth official.

His son Alexander faces one charge of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one charge of using a forged document to induce a Commonwealth official.

All charges are alleged to have been committed between July 2015 and January 2019.

Defence lawyer Chelsea Emery, who was acting as town agent for the legal representatives for Mr De St Amatus, said they had not had contact with their client since he had been committed to the District Court and had asked to withdraw from the case.

Judge Glen Cash then ordered Mr De St Amatus, who lives in Docklands in Victoria, appear in person for his next mention on May 24.

His father, Dr De St Amatus’ matters were adjourned until the same date, though he is not required to appear in person.

Dr De St Amatus is the founder of the Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials and is also a founding member of United Scientists Association of Technology Inc.

It was reported in November, 2022 his son was the chief executive of the USAT Inc organisation, founded by his father, and a board member of numerous other firms.
