A Coast woman who broke into a council building and caused almost $6000 in damages just to steal a can of red spray paint has been sentenced.

Belinda Rasha Savage, 26, pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court to breaking and entering, wilful damage and five minor drug charges on Tuesday, June 22.

The court heard Savage had in February 2021 broken into a Noosa Council building at the Eumundi Noosa Road landfill site in Doonan after she climbed onto the roof to break a CCTV camera.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Savage had then broken a window to enter the building with another unknown person, and took a can of red spray paint before leaving.

The total cost of the damage to the window and the CCTV camera was $5927.15.

The court heard police found Savage days later in Little Mountain with drugs and drug paraphernalia, including a pipe and a needle.

Mr McLaughlin warned the mother of two to organise her life after “very stupid offending” because she was “climbing” a ladder which would lead to jail if she continued to reoffend.

She was sentenced to one year probation.

Mr McLaughlin ordered Savage to pay back the full sum of money owed to the council after she refused to tell police who she was with the night of the break and enter.
