A 24-year-old Sunshine Coast woman, accused of raiding a Buddina business with a man believed to be her boyfriend, has been forbidden from seeing or contacting him after she was granted freedom in court.
Alarah Jane Gowen-Fullerton cried in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 25, as she made a bid for freedom over allegations she and her partner stole “well in the thousands” worth of tools from a Birtinya address.
She faces four charges including receiving tainted property, and three of breaking and entering. She has not entered a plea.
The court was told CCTV footage captured two people, including a bleached blonde woman police alleged was Ms Gowen-Fullerton, taking a number of electrical tools from the property before fleeing in an allegedly stolen Mazda 3.
The woman on the footage was wearing a “facial covering”, the court was told.
Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said Ms Gowen-Fullerton was on bail for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance at the time of the alleged offences.
The car was later found after an accident, where some of stolen tools were located inside, the court was told.
Ms Gowen-Fullerton’s boyfriend was arrested at a Peachester home, where more property was found. He was remanded in custody.
Sergeant Potter said Ms Gowen-Fullerton was arrested at a separate address and found with electric blue hair and matching stained hands, indicating she had recently dyed her hair.
But despite being found at a different address, Ms Gowen-Fullerton’s brother, who is not charged with any wrongdoing, had told police she was living at the Peachester address with him and her co-accused, Sergeant Potter said.
Defence lawyer Michael Robinson said there was little evidence to implicate his client, other than the fact the woman caught on CCTV shared a similar physical resemblance.
He said the police’s objection to Ms Gowen-Fullerton’s bail detailed a strong case against her alleged co-accused, who was allegedly the driver of the Mazda, but did not have a strong case against Ms Gowen-Fullerton.
Magistrate Raelene Ellis granted Ms Gowen-Fullerton bail on the condition she not contact or see her alleged partner and co-accused.
She will return to the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on February 22.
