A man who was brutally bashed by his ex's new boyfriend and his parents was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after being choked, punched, kicked and bitten.
Christopher Claude Smyth, along with his parents, assaulted a man in broad daylight on a Nambour street in late August 2018.
Smyth, then-19, had joined in after a fight broke out between his father and the victim, a former friend of Smyth.
Facing Maroochydore District Court on Friday, Smyth, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.
Crown prosecutor Alex Stark said Smyth was in a relationship with the victim's ex-partner, with who the victim shared a son.
On the day of the assault the victim had gone to pick up his young son and Smyth's partner asked him to wait outside while she got him ready.
As the victim walked back to his car Smyth's father yelled ""You got something to say, d---head?" at him, the court heard.
The victim replied "F--- off" and Smyth's father punched him twice in the face.
Mr Stark said Smyth then ran across the road and joined in, punching the man several times in the face and head and pulling his jacket up over his head.
The victim was pushed onto his back and Smyth's mother kicked him, the court heard.
During a pause in the assault the victim was able to stand up and walk over to his new partner, who was with his son.
The court heard Smyth's partner then pulled her son away from the couple before Smyth and his father rushed at the victim again.
Smyth tackled the man face first into a ceramic pot, punched him in the head and then wrapped his hands around his throat and squeezed, Mr Stark said.
As he struggled to free himself Smyth bit one of his fingers.
The man then kicked Smyth in the chest to get him off of him.
When police arrived they spoke to the man and observed injuries to his arms, head, torso and finger.
The court heard his injuries only needed to be treated with antibiotics and painkillers.

"Thankfully your father and mother have now left the country," Judge Richard Jones said.
Defence barrister Mark Dixon said Smyth had recently had a falling out with his parents who had moved back to New Zealand and that he had no other support in Australia.
He said Smyth was focused on his immediate family and supporting his partner, stepson and their new baby.
Smyth was educated to Year 9, had completed TAFE courses and had previously worked in mechanics.
Mr Dixon said Smyth was currently unemployed but would be looking for work in the future.
"It's all very unfortunate it occurred in front of a four-year-old," Judge Jones said in his sentencing remarks.
"You should be entirely ashamed of your conduct.
"The injuries, through good fortune, were relatively minimal."
He accepted Smyth had remained out of trouble since the assault.
Judge Jones said Smyth's guilty plea was in his favour and he would only record a conviction on one charge.
"This is indicative of you hopefully turning your life around and not reoffending," he said.
On count one Smyth was sentenced to two years on probation.
On count two he was sentenced to six months in jail, wholly suspended for two years.
Smyth's parents have not been charged over the assault.
