A Palmview boy was charged after allegedly hitting a moving bus in Mooloolaba
A woman security officer was showered with glass after a teen allegedly smashed a bus window while the vehicle was stopped at a set of lights.
Police have charged a 15-year-old with smashing a bus window and covering a security guard on board the vehicle with broken glass.
A woman security guard detailed the alleged attack on Saturday, September 6.
She said she was sitting on the passenger side of the bus when the an object was thrown at the window, which had pulled up at a set of lights on Brisbane Rd.
It is the latest in a series of incidents involving teenagers across the Sunshine Coast.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said an individual allegedly smashed the window of a travelling bus late at night.
“Between 1am to 1.30am, a boy allegedly threw an object towards a bus travelling on Brisbane Road, which smashed a window,” she said.
She said the teenager tried to flee but was arrested by police shortly after.
The Palmview boy was charged with one count of wilful damage.
The security guard took to Facebook to urge caution when travelling in the dark.
“No one is safe anymore,” she said.
“(I’m) just wanting to warn everyone to be extra careful when pulling up at lights late at night.”
The security guard said there were passengers on the bus during the incident.
A video taken after the window smashing shows a group of youths on e-bikes leaving and gesturing back towards the security guard filming.
Several others expressed their fears in the comments of the post.
This incident is one of several alleged youth crimes that have occurred in the past few weeks.
There was an alleged attack on an IGA owner in Dicky Beach.
The Dicky Beach business owner was sent to hospital after a group of teens allegedly attacked him in his beachside store.
There was also a string of group attacks in the Caloundra area.
A group of teens allegedly ‘ganged up on’ another teenage boy and attempted to steal from him.
Police were also called to reports of a man being kicked in Golden Beach.
Police recently launched a new operation to target youth crime over the coming months.
The Palmview teenager appeared in the Maroochydore Children’s Court on Wednesday, September 10.
