POLICE have charged a man for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing thousands of dollars in property before attempting to sell it on Gumtree.

Nambour CIB and Property Crime Task Force investigated, arrested and charged a man from Chevallum.

Yesterday the officers executed a search warrant at a property in Leafy Lane, Chevallum and located a man getting into a car.

It allegedly matched the description of the car observed by witnesses to the Conondale break and enter.

Sunshine Coast District Detective Senior Sergeant officer-in-charge Daren Edwards believes there are more people involved.

Det Snr Sgt Edwards said the owner had found when he returned to the property on May 8 that various items and machinery were missing.

He said a battery unit for the solar system, water pumps and an eight-tonne Komatsu excavator and a Argo-amphibious vehicle had been was stolen.

The excavator is valued at $40,000.

“Some of the property remains outstanding,” Det Snr Sgt Edwards said.

“There are clearly other people involved and we encourage them to enable police to recover that piece of machinery.”

Police will allege the offender was selling some of the stolen property via gumtree.

He was charged with one enter a premise and commit indictable offences by break and one fraud charge.

The 48-year-old man has been bailed to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 10.
