A young girl who went missing for two days from her Birtinya home has been found safe.

The 12-year-old girl had last been seen by her older brother leaving their family home at Birtinya about 6.45pm on Wednesday, February 7, saying she was headed to a park.

She left home without her wallet or shoes and she does not own a mobile phone.

Police stated about 3.30pm on Friday the girl had been found safe.

Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said earlier on Friday during a press conference her brother went to a Birtinya park 20 minutes later to check up on her and she was gone.

About 8.30pm her family told police she was missing.

The detective said it was extremely out of character and it was the first time she had spent the night away from home without informing anyone.

Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said police had serious concerns about the girl’s whereabouts due to her young age.
