A ute found engulfed in flames on the Sunshine Coast is suspected to be stolen, with a witness seeing a person running from the scene.
Emergency services were called to a car fire on Nambour Connection Rd at Kulangoor at 1.36pm.
On arrival, a 2002 Nissan Navara Duel Cab utility was found well engulfed in flames, as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire in the ute, as well as the adjoining grass that was on fire.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said it appeared the car involved was a suspected stolen vehicle.
“A witness saw someone run from the scene,” the spokeswoman said.
The car fire resulted in the northbound lanes of the road being closed, as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
The fire was contained at 2.15pm.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the vehicle would be taken away for forensic examination.
“We’re conducting some further inquiries into the cause of the fire,” the spokesman said.
