SUNSHINE Coast Grammar has appointed the former head of its junior school to lead the college into the first half of 2012.

The Forest Glen school today announced Paul Clegg, former Head of Sunshine Coast Grammar Junior School, as Acting Principal.

Following the farewell of Nigel Fairbairn, former headmaster of seven years, Mr Clegg will take up the position of Acting Principal in the first half of 2012.

This will allow the school's owner, PMSA (Presbyterian and Methodists Schools Association) and School Council time to appoint the best person to lead the school into the future.

The Chairman of the Sunshine Coast Grammar School Council, Bernie Stein believes that the decision to appoint a strong but stable leader who was familiar to many current school families in the interim was vital.

"Mr Clegg has demonstrated a proven track record in enhancing the status of the Grammar Junior School and its academic performance during his time with the School and we are confident in his ability to act as Principal during this transitional phase," said Mr Stein.

"Mr Clegg has been known to possess great leadership and management qualities.

"Commended for his calm and dynamic leadership style, he has demonstrated extensive experience in previous roles as Deputy Principal and Acting Principal prior to taking up the position as Head of Junior School at Sunshine Coast Grammar School almost five years ago.

"Dedicated to identifying potential leaders, the PMSA, as part of their policy, strive to provide further leadership training and opportunities to staff.

"Mr Clegg is passionate about the School and we are positive that he will do an outstanding job during this transitional period," said Mr Stein.

Careful thought and consideration was given in appointing a professional recruitment agency to oversee the application process for the position of Principal, which has resulted in attracting a high level of candidates with over 40 quality applicants currently being reviewed.

"We have been overwhelmed by the applications received from both local and interstate candidates some of whom are existing principals as well as deputies with excellent credentials and some from well-known prestigious schools across the country," said Mr Stein.

"It is an exciting process but one which requires careful consideration to ensure we select a leader who values our strong sense of community, has a mindset for the future, has Christian faith and action, and translates our vision of 'passion meeting purpose' into rigorous, relevant teaching and learning."
