Parking restrictions for Noosa National Park considered by Noosa Council

Four-hour parking limits are on the cards for residential streets near the Noosa National Park in an effort to crack down on illegal camping.

Tourists, residents and surfers will lose untimed parking at Noosa’s popular national park if the council goes ahead with a planned trial.

Noosa Council is considering trialling four-hour parking limits at streets in Little Cove to address illegal camping issues.

The trial is proposed for parking at Mitti and Pandanus Streets, Alderly Terrace and Kareela Avenue.

A petition against the trial has already received almost 200 signatures from residents and surfers.

Lead petitioners Ian and Carol Ross said it would leave residents with no access to overnight street parking.

“Guests, relatives and other visitors intending to stay overnight are expected to park approximately 1km away, walk down a steep, dimly lit street which lacks a footpath,” they said.

Noosa Council is working to address illegal camping and parking issues at Little Cove.

Noosa Council infrastructure services director Larry Sengstock said the trial was based on improvements from a previous successful trial conducted in the area.

“At this stage, we have gone out to the community with a proposed trial to see what will work best going forward and to gauge feedback from the community,” he said.

“We have discussed the trial with local residents and are currently working through the feedback.”

The changes would also include additional designated parking bays and no stopping lines.

In June the council said a trial would begin from mid July.

Mr Sengstock said the council did not issue resident parking permits.
