School bus and car in crash on Mooloolah Rd at Eudlo

A beloved school bus driver has been commended for taking evasive action to avoid a more serious impact after a collision with a car on a notorious Sunshine Coast road – as the “shaken” students involved return to school.

Emergency crews rushed to a bus and car crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland late on Tuesday afternoon.

Three students and a beloved driver escaped injury after their school bus and another car collided on the bend of a notorious Sunshine Coast hinterland road on Tuesday afternoon.

Paramedics and police rushed to Mooloolah Rd, south of Logwoods Rd in Eudlo, about 4.15pm after reports of a bus and car crash.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said they treated seven patients.

One patient was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

There were three secondary students on the Suncoast Christian College bus at the time of the crash.

Principal Greg Mattiske said all of the students were back at school on Wednesday.

“We’re concerned for everyone’s safety and wellbeing, the occupants of the other vehicle too,” Mr Mattiske said.

“I’m glad our driver took the necessary action by hugging the left hand lane and avoiding what could have been a much worst crash.

“The involved students are all back at school today. They’re a little bit shaken of course but doing well.”

A full investigation is expected to be carried out but the school bus driver has been commended for taking evasive action to reduce the impact.

Parent Belinda-Rose Thwaites said her children had exited the bus just half an hour before the crash.

“I just hope everyone is OK,” she said online.

“My kids love their bus driver. He’s so caring.”

Residents reported the road was notorious for motorists going too fast and was super slippery in wet conditions.

“That road needs to be made wider with how many buses that use that road. There’s not much space for passing cars going the other way,’’ Adam Shields wrote.

“A few weeks ago one car was flying in 60 zone in Mooloolah Valley,’’ Gulya Munnings reported.

“The driver lost control of the car on the corner and went on the wrong side of the road (my side) luckily I had enough room to take left and missed me by millimetres. I was shaking all day. Why would you speed?”
