A 25-YEAR-OLD man injured his back after falling 25 metres while paragliding at Rainbow Beach yesterday.
AGL Action Rescue Helicopter pilot Al Carstens said the Brisbane man came down over Carlo Sand Blow at Rainbow Beach, near the southern tip of Fraser Island, about 12.45pm.
“Our aircraft was called in, but we were unable to land on the sand blow so we winched a flight paramedic down instead,” Mr Carstens said.
Mr Carstens then flew the helicopter over to Rainbow Beach and waited for instructions while the paramedic treated the man.
Once the man was stabilised, Mr Carstens returned to the scene to winch the duo up before flying to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
The man was in a stable condition last night after treatment for a back injury.
