CURIOUSITY was a major drawcard for many who took advantage of an electric vehicle expo on their doorstep.

More than 60 exhibitors, ranging from private owners to dealers filled the Noosa AFL Ground on Saturday to show off their battery-powered cars.

They also showcased electric scooters, bikes and outboards.

Attendee Michael Logan said he was drawn to the event by the amount of publicity electric cars had been receiving.

"It is obviously going to be a factor in the next 10 to 15 years,” Mr Logan said.

"My interest has been piqued by the conversion (to electricity) of existing vehicles.”

Australian Electric Vehicle Association member Wayne Bignell brought the electric-powered Lotus Super 7 replica he built from scratch from the Gold Coast for the event.

"It took about 21 months to build and it's been on the road for two years,” Mr Bignell said.

He said it had a range of about 160km and could reach about 130km/h.

"I brought it up with the club to get interest in the club.”

Noosa Electric Vehicle Expo organiser Vivien Griffin said the event was put on by Zero Emissions Noosa to encourage people to consider alternatives to internal combustion engines.

"Our goal as an organisation is to achieve zero emissions in the community by 2026,” Ms Griffin said.

"This (event) is about letting our community know what is happening in that (electric vehicle)space.”
