THE Tour Down Under has just completed in South Australia. These cyclists push themselves in 30-degree temperatures through beautiful grape-growing regions such as McLaren Vale where Shingleback Wines is located, the product of John and Kym Davey, two brothers who extended the estate from the land first farmed by their grandfather in the 1950s.

Kiss Me Kate, ChardonnayAdelaide Hills, 2015:

A small amount of McLaren Vale chardonnay fruit also. Big flavours with plenty of peaches and white nectarine, barley water and creaming soda like vanilla.

RATING: 8.5/10 RRP: $30 ALC: 12.8%

Red Knot, GSM, McLaren Vale, 2015:

Enticing smells of Turkish delight and dark raspberry. Red fruits and spice mix to create a smooth but not simple wine that is inherently drinkable.

RATING: 9/10 RRP: $15 ALC: 14.4%

D Block Reserve Shiraz, McLaren Vale, 2012:

Gold medal winner from multiple international shows. Impenetrable opaque purple colour and opulent aromas of cabbage rose, dark chocolate, peppercorns, coffee grounds and cedary oak. Flavours of plush blackberry and raspberry fruit wrapped in quality oak.

RATING: 9/10 RRP: $55 ALC: 14.5%
