Why do we need fireworks to celebrate events?

Why does a public event have to end in adding to the potential destruction of our atmosphere for the pleasure of short-lived glitter, noise and haze?

I LISTEN as every bang goes off, cringing.

My dog barks incessantly and is freaked out by the noise, nearby birds nesting squark... these creatures knowing only too well of the damage this futile display of wow is doing to our earth.

Why does a public event have to end in adding to the potential destruction of our atmosphere for the pleasure of short-lived glitter, noise and haze?

What is its purpose apart from tradition?

Why isn't, in this day and age, a laser light display with inspiring music, a better choice for such events and be without the carbon dioxide emissions?

Surely the amount of money spent on fireworks can go to better use, perhaps donations to a charity.

My mind boggles as to why it is so blatantly obvious that we should be looking after our planet and teaching our children the same.

I really think heads should be hung in shame and I would hope that better decisions are made for the future.
