Basically, when other surgeons throw their hands up in failure he performs the impossible.

ONE of the finest surgeons we are privileged to have working in our hospitals is being crucified by senior medical figures.

Dr Charlie Teo is the brain surgeon who operates on patients other surgeons have deemed inoperable and saved many lives.

Yes his fees are higher than other surgeons and because of this they are trying to push him out of the system.

Basically, when other surgeons throw their hands up in failure he performs the impossible.

Is it professional jealousy or is it his high fees?

Probably a bit of both.

As Dr Teo says, a fee of $120,000 raised by public funds doesn't all go into his pocket.

Unfortunately, difficult surgery is expensive and something the government needs to look at with a view to reducing the financial burden.

Dr Teo says if the medical profession continues to crush him he will consider giving medicine away all together and that would be an immense loss to us all.
