SOAPBOX: Motorbike riders, you have no right

SLOW down and think about what you're doing before you kill someone.

DEAR motorbike riders.

I know and care about many of you, but you need to hear this.

You have no right to put lives at risk.

That is what you do when you break the speed limit.

Your life is the one at greatest risk, but it's not the only one, and even your death, while it might not bother you once it's happened, will have a devastating impact on other people.

I don't just mean your family and the people who love you, I mean the person who pulls over to help after you crash into a tree or a guardrail, or into a ditch.

I mean the driver of the car that kills you when you collide while zooming down the Bruce Hwy at 223kmh.

I mean the police officers and paramedics who have to scrape your broken body off the road and tell your mother and father, your wife or husband, your children, that you're never coming home.

Maybe you think you can handle speeds of 190kmh or 223kmh, like the two riders static speed cameras snapped at Warana and Glass House Mountains on Monday, and maybe you can.

But public roads are not the place to do it.

If you want to ride like you're racing in the MotoGP go to a race track.

Don't do it on Nicklin Way, where the speed limit is 70kmh for good reason. It's a busy road, its a built-up area, people live along the street.

If you hit someone at 190kmh their chance of survival is slim, and so is yours.

So slow down and think about what you're doing.
