SO many great things are happening around the Sunshine Coast.

Each week we are reading about new developments, big projects and exciting plans for the future.

But nowhere, not once, have I heard anyone talk about what the Sunshine Coast is doing to help those becoming increasingly marginalised by the high costs of living.

And it worries me that those people whose bread and butter built what we know now might be pushed out in a desperate quick cash grab for the future.

Our politicians have a responsibility to not only plan for the future needs, but to consider the needs of those who call this place home.

We have all the plans for new developments from homes to shops, but where are the plans for more emergency housing for those who suddenly find themselves in a difficult or dangerous situation?

Where are the plans to help our pensioners who have their rates, water and electricity sky-rocketing while their pension amount increases at a snail's pace?

Where are the plans to provide for the very many who earn less than the average wage because incomes on the Sunshine Coast are notoriously low yet our costs are extraordinarily high.

As governments and developers reap the financial rewards from a booming property market and enormous growth, we need to consider and provide for those less fortunate.

Or are we simply going to leave that for the church?
