WE ARE writing to encourage students across Queensland to register for the Ponytail Project this year and rock the chop to make a difference in the lives of locals affected by cancer.

As seniors at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School in 2015, we wanted to get the whole school body involved in a fundraiser for the many families who are affected by cancer, after one of our mothers was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Thinking of what we could do, we were inspired by a school in Sydney that had undertaken a similar initiative - and so the Ponytail Project was born.

With teenage girls, social image can be such an important thing and chopping off your ponytail can be a big deal - but that was put aside to raise important funds and support those who need it most.

Now, four years on, we are amazed and humbled to see the Ponytail Project getting bigger and bigger.

In 2018, more than 190 girls across Queensland registered for the initiative, raising more than $125,000 for Cancer Council Queensland.

This year, we want more students across the state to rock the chop and put a stop cancer.

It's so imperative we raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland, so they can support those affected by the disease, as well as fund prevention programs and lifesaving research.

As well as raising funds for such an important cause, the Ponytail Project brings the school community together in a way that nothing else does.

To register or find out more, visit ponytailproject.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
